I've been elected new board chairwoman for Design Sweden, marking a new chapter for this 60 year old organisation. How exciting!
Highlights from the past two years:
The introduction of an Ambassador Project that features progressive design practitioners to a growing roster of profiles connected to Design Sweden
The small-scale research format labeled ‘Design Sweden Sessions’, providing a snapshot of the practitioner’s situation and ideas
The celebration Design Sweden’s 60 years anniversary with an evening of talks from some of Sweden’s leading creatives
The introduction of the interactive Design Sweden Map, aimed at creating the definitive resource of designers working in Sweden and abroad
Amidst this, we have continued to grow fast, and we are now amounting to a respectful total of 1668 members.
The association may be turning 60 in 2017, but we still consider this to be the early beginnings. Design is assuming an ever-larger role in both private and professional life, and we at Design Sweden look forward to continuing to champion those who drive that movement – the design practitioners in Sweden and abroad.
As the new Chairwoman, I will lead the next phase of Design Sweden.
I believe, going from problem-solver to problem-seeker, the role of the designer is essential in making the world a better place. The reason I work as a designer and educator is because I love helping individuals and businesses innovate and thrive.
I am really proud of what we have achieved so far. With this stable foundation, I will be looking to refine our purpose and align it closer to the needs of our members. Therefore my initial focus will be to create a more social designer community, facilitating meeting of minds, and (hopefully) starting further partnerships with industry organizations and creative businesses in Sweden.
About Design Sweden
Design Sweden is an organisation set up with the sole purpose to support, nurture and enable designers living and working in Sweden and those operating abroad. Founded in 1957, we act as one voice – driving and engaging in the discussions surrounding design on an industry level and, wider, in the public sphere.
We offer two types of membership; Free and Professional. If you are interested in knowing more about our Professional services, have a look here.
