OPINION: The Three Models of Happiness

The Three Models of Happiness: What Makes People Happy in Different Parts of the World?

What makes people happy varies from person to person, and culture to culture. But, according to a study published in The Atlantic, there are three main models of happiness that seem to be common across the globe.

๐Ÿ™‚ The first model is based on good relationships with the people you love. In this model, friends and family are the ones who bring the most happiness. The United States is an example of a country that fits this model.

๐Ÿ™‚ The second model is based on a higher consciousness. This is the model for highly spiritual, philosophical, or religious people, especially those who place a special importance on coming together in community. Southern India has been found to be home to many people who follow this model.

๐Ÿ™‚ The third model is based on doing what you love, usually with others. This model is for those who dedicate themselves to work or leisure activities that are deeply fulfilling. It can be found in the Nordic countries and Central Europe.

Of course, these models are not mutually exclusive. Many people may find happiness in a combination of these models. However, understanding what makes people happy in different parts of the world can help us appreciate cultural differences and promote well-being for all.

Which model โ€“ or combination of โ€“ do you recognise yourself with?
